FRENCH CREEK — Quick action from fire crews helped minimize damage to a boat at the French Creek Marina.

Parksville Fire Department Chief Marc Norris told NanaimoNewsNOW the blaze started just before 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 17 when flames and smoke were seen shooting out of the 50 foot vessel.

“The Coast Guard from French Creek had already deployed their boat adjacent to the vessel that was on fire. Our crews ran hose lines down the dock and extinguished the fire in the wheel house of the vessel,” Norris said.

The fire proved challenging for crews with the boat approximately 350 feet down the dock.
