NANAIMO — One of the first volunteers for Nanaimo’s Crime Watch program was recognized for being with the detachment for 25 years.

Don Willett received a Commanding Officer’s certificate and a pin for his lengthy time with the Nanaimo RCMP.

He was one of the first volunteers with what was then known as Citzens on Patrol, which became Crime Watch. He’s also served in numerous other volunteer-enhanced programs.

“The people keep me coming back,” Willett said. “Being able to talk to people in the community and help them is very satisfying.”
