NANAIMO — The Clippers and Bulldogs played a tight game on Sunday afternoon, a game that looked like two teams still finding their way in the early season.

Alberni Valley was really good in first period outshooting the Clippers 14-2 and getting a goal from Nicholas Seitz.

The best player on the ice in the first was Nanaimo goalie Jordan Naylor, he made several key stops to give his team a chance to find their legs.

In the second period the Clippers got into penalty trouble with three straight minors and also gave up the 2-0 goal to Tyler Vanuden, but Matthew Mosher’s first goal with Nanaimo had the game at 2-1 at the intermission.

Neither team could score in the third although Ethan Scardina had an excellent chance to beat John Hawthorne, but he was stopped by the Bulldogs goalie in the game’s final moments.

The final shots were 25-19 for Alberni Valley with the power plays finishing 4-2 in the Bulldogs favour.

Sunday’s Three Stars were the goal scorers with Vanuden, Mosher, and Seitz taking the honours.

Next weekend the Clippers are off to Powell River for a pair of games against the Kings starting Friday at 7 p.m.

Last season Nanaimo went 4-4 in their eight games versus the Kings.
