Clippers 4-0 in preseason after 3-1 win over Cowichan Valley

NANAIMO — The perfect preseason continues for the Clippers after a 3-1 win over Cowichan Valley on Friday night.

The Capitals struck first when a rebound was batted behind Clippers starter Austin Roden in the first period.

Hugh Larkin was credited with the opening tally, which stood as the only goal until Nanaimo counted two fast goals, late in the second period.

There was however a disallowed Cowichan goal earlier in that second frame that was called back because of a player in the crease.

At the time the Caps were on a five on three power play.

The Clippers got all the offense they would need when Tyler Maser converted a David Silye pass with under six minutes to play, and then two minutes later Brady Lynn tipped home a feed from Jamie Collins to put the home team in front to stay.

Noah Featherstonhaugh Gowe came in to play the second half of the game for Nanaimo, and Cowichan made a goalie swap from Yann Dery to Jason Pichette early in the third.

Jordan Wharrie’s point shot was the only goal of the third period, and solidified Nanaimo’s fourth straight victory.

Final shots were 37-20 for the Clippers.

There’s just one more game on the exhibition schedule for Nanaimo with a trip down to Victoria on Saturday.

The game is a 7 p.m. start from the Juan De Fuca Arena.

On Sept 8 the regular season opens with an island rivalry game against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

The Clippers beat the Bulldogs 4-1 in a preseason game on August 26.
