High end bikes stolen in Nanaimo

Nanaimo RCMP are reporting the theft of three high end mountain bikes.

Constable Gary O’Brien says it happened at the Summer Hill apartments.

“It appears that it happened on or about July 1st,”said O’Brien. “Video surveillance was obtained.  We have two males seen entering the bike storage area.  They may have had access to a fob, that is being checked into at this point.  There’s no forced entry into the storage area.”

Police have identified one of the suspects, a photo of the other suspect is on our twitter page @islandradionews.

In a separate incident Sunday two people tried to get into a storage locker on Dufferin crescent, but they took off after a confrontation with the building manager.

O’Brien urges bike owners to take as many precautions as possible.

“The first line of defense is to lock up your bike.  The second one is you have to have your serial number registered.  And if you haven’t received any information on Project 529 yet, it’s a free app, go to that and educate yourself.  And we will be doing free signups of bikes throughout the community in the next little while.”
