Oceanside Teens Lucky to walk away from Serious Crash

A serious single-vehicle crash on Highway 19, at the border between Lantzville and Nanoose Bay.

Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman says a northbound car with three teenaged girls from Oceanside inside veered off the highway and went down an embankment Wednesday night.

Foreman says two of the girls remain in Nanaimo Hospital, adding it’s unclear what caused the crash.

“We don’t know at this point, there was some inclement weather, but there was no pooling of water on the road at that time, so we’re looking into all avenues of what might have transpired,” said Foreman.

The crash could have been much worse, according to Foreman.

“The vehicle was severely damaged and had hit some trees. Anytime you’re leaving a highway at a high rate of speed and hitting trees, it’s very fortunate that everyone in the car is going to be okay.”

One of the girls is 17 years old, while the other two are 18.

Foreman says the two girls that remain in Nanaimo Hospital have non-life threatening injuries.
