Nanaimo Fire hitting the streets for smoke alarm awareness

NANAIMO — Even if there hasn't been a fire, downtown residents will soon see Nanaimo firefighters at their door.

Nanaimo Fire is expanding their awareness campaign about working smoke detectors and will go door to door downtown starting in October.

NANAIMO — RCMP confirmed an elderly woman was taken to Victoria Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries after being trapped under her own car.

NANAIMO — A Port Alberni man has serious lower body injures after he was hit on Hwy. 19 in Nanoose Bay while trying to push his broken-down motorcycle across the highway.

NANAIMO — The Nanaimo Parkway southbound has reopened after a 55-year-old cyclist was hit between the Northfield and Jingle Pot intersections. 

Traffic was significantly backed up while investigators were on the scene. It may remain congested for some time.

NANAIMO — A provincial law designed to better protect emergency responders and Good Samaritans has been used for what's believed to be the first time in a case involving a Nanaimo firefighter.

NANAIMO — RCMP say a frightening Hwy. 4 crash highlights the importance of driving with extra care this time of year.

Central Island Traffic Services RCMP Cpl. Mike Elston said a car with two Port Alberni women inside plunged into Cameron Lake Thursday night just after 8:30 p.m.
