Mid-island municipalities offer up skating, swimming as Family Day options

NANAIMO —  If you're looking for something to do this Family Day, there are activities around the mid-island region to take advantage of.

The Nanaimo Aquatic Centre will have an everyone welcome swim from 12 to 6 p.m. Staff will be leading family-oriented activities from 1 to 3 p.m.

NANAIMO — Transforming the way Nanaimo is viewed as a destination.

That was the goal when Tourism Nanaimo and local web and creative company Array Studios embarked on their 2016 campaign.

NANAIMO — A deal described as a win-win for everyone involved could unlock the potential of two major pieces of sport infrastructure in the heart of Nanaimo.

Local short film fest has record-breaking year

NANAIMO — What started as a local short film festival has expanded to one of worldwide renown having its most successful year ever.

This year, 112 films were submitted for the Vancouver Island Short Film Festival, which is 50 more than last year.

Nanaimo grew significantly in the last five years, which the City says shows how vibrant and enticing they are as a community.

 NANAIMO — In the last five years, Nanaimo has managed to surpass the rest of the country in bringing people to the city.
