NANAIMO —  In the BCHL, the Nanaimo Clippers got their first win of 2017 Friday night at home. The Clippers edged the Cowichan Valley Capitals 2-1.

The Clippers will be back on home ice Sunday afternoon when they host Prince George. Game time is 2:00 p.m.

Nanaimo's Van Osch wins gold at provincial curling championship

NEW WESTMINSTER — Nanaimo's Marika Van Osch captured a gold medal at the 2017 B.C. Junior Curling Championship Sunday in New Westminster.

Team Brown, featuring Van Osch as the third, capped an undefeated run to the title with a 7-4 win over team Daniels out of the Lower Mainland.

Braves beat Buccaneers 4-2

NANAIMO — The Saanich Braves defeated the Buccanners 4-2 Thursday night at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, halting the Bucs' six-game winning streak.

Brandon Fushimi potted two goals, while Kyle Mace and Dylan McCabe netted the others to lift Saanich (20-9-1-2) past Nanaimo (19-13).
