Cox brothers finally on the same team as VIU basketball season begins

NANAIMO — The sports spotlight at Vancouver Island University has been on the CCAA Men's Soccer Nationals this week, but Thursday is a special day for basketball fans with the beginning of the PACWEST season.
 

VIU will host the Men's Soccer Nationals November 8-11 at Merle Logan Field.  The CCAA Awards Banquet will be held at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre on November 7.

NANAIMO — The CCAA Soccer Nationals begin at Merle Logan Field on Wednesday, but the events for the week are already underway.
 
All eight teams, including the host VIU Mariners, will get practice time on Tuesday ahead of the national awards banquet on Tuesday night.

NANAIMO — A martial arts tournament featuring kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is on tap for this weekend.
 
It's being dubbed the first event of it's kind in Nanaimo with about 60 athletes from ages four and up competing in the Cilaire Elementary gymnasium.

NANAIMO — A 13-game Buccaneers (14-2) winning streak came to a crashing halt as the Campbell River Storm (13-4-1) invaded the Pirate Ship and beat Nanaimo 8-4 Thursday night.

NANAIMO — Now that the VI Raiders are back home, the club can reflect on what was an excellent season.

The Raiders defied the odds to win the Cullen Cup but lost out 48-0 to the Saskatoon Hilltops in the national semifinal game.
