Nanaimo's first West Coast Combat Championships to feature kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

NANAIMO — A martial arts tournament featuring kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is on tap for this weekend.
 
It's being dubbed the first event of it's kind in Nanaimo with about 60 athletes from ages four and up competing in the Cilaire Elementary gymnasium.

NANAIMO — A 13-game Buccaneers (14-2) winning streak came to a crashing halt as the Campbell River Storm (13-4-1) invaded the Pirate Ship and beat Nanaimo 8-4 Thursday night.

NANAIMO — Now that the VI Raiders are back home, the club can reflect on what was an excellent season.

The Raiders defied the odds to win the Cullen Cup but lost out 48-0 to the Saskatoon Hilltops in the national semifinal game.

Clippers Crozier brothers both commit to NCAA hockey programs

NANAIMO — As the Clippers were battling in three key divisional hockey games last week, two of their players were busy mapping out their futures.
 
Brothers Tristan and Max Crozier both committed to NCAA hockey programs within days of each other.

SASKATOON — The VI Raiders winning run through the playoffs came to a halt on Sunday against the Saskatoon Hilltops.
 
After beating Okanagan and Westshore on the road to capture the 2017 Cullen, the Raiders were stymied by the 2016 Canadian Bowl champs 48-0.

NANAIMO — A familiar face stepped up to help extend the Nanaimo Buccaneers (13-1) winning streak to 12 games after a 3-2 victory over the visiting Victoria Cougars (7-6).

NANAIMO — To get to the Canadian Bowl national championship game the VI Raiders will have to go through the three time defending champs.
 
That's the task at hand for the Cullen Cup winners as they prepare to visit the Saskatoon Hilltops on Sunday.
