NANAIMO — Patrick Bajkov hopes a visit to Las Vegas is a first step toward playing in the National Hockey League.

Bajkov, a 19-year-old from Nanaimo, has been invited to the Vegas Golden Knights' development camp from June 27 to July 1.

Four new members added at Nanaimo Sports Hall of Fame ceremony

NANAIMO — The Sports Hall of Fame officially added its four newest members on Saturday.
 
Baseball player Aaron Guiel, basketball standout Richie Nichol, mountain biker Steve Smith and the 2009 VI Raiders went into the hall at the Nanaimo Museum.

Ten Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gold medals for Island Top Team at Western Canadians

PENTICTON — Island Top Team is back from the Okanagan with ten gold medals in the Western Canadian Championships for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
 
Nanaimo's BJJ academy won the nogi team title at the South Okanagan Events Centre with five gold medals and two silvers.
