RCMP warn residents of break and enters in the French Creek area

Apr 23, 2018 | 5:15 PM

PARKSVILLE — Oceanside RCMP say a homeowner catching two men on his property near French Creek is the latest case in a rise of break and enters in the area.

Police say a homeowner on Gaetjen St. caught two men on his property on April 17. They claimed they had walked off the beach onto the property and were stuck behind a gate looking for a way out.

After they left, the homeowner noticed one of the men had previously been in his crawlspace.

An Amazon speaker was found on the property, which Cpl. Jesse Foreman said is believed to be stolen.

“There’s been one break and enter in the area, as well as in the nearby area (of) Wright Rd.,” Cpl. Jesse Foreman said. “We’ve had several thefts and break-ins to sheds, so we have a good feeling that these are all connected.”

Police would like to speak to anyone in the area who was a victim of a break and enter or may be missing an Amazon speaker.

Foreman said they don’t have a description of the suspects spotted on April 17 and are encouraging residents to report any suspicious activity.
