Loss of limb: trees mistakenly cut down in Maffeo Sutton Park
NANAIMO — What’s being called a miscommunication between the City and a contractor saw several ornamental trees mistakenly removed from Nanaimo’s picturesque waterfront walkway.
Manager of parks operations Al Britton said the City received several complaints from people upset about four-to-five mature trees being cut down along the walkway in Maffeo Sutton Park, on the water side of the walkway near the Lions Pavilion.
Britton said a contractor was supposed to take out one dead tree and remove some invasive plants on Thursday. Instead, a Red Hawthorne, Cherry Blossom and other trees were toppled.
“It was a total misunderstanding and unfortunately there’s nothing we can do about it now. It’s done,” Britton said.
