PARKSVILLE —  In the VIJHL, the Nanaimo Buccaneers have taken a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Oceanside Generals. The Buccaneers skated past their mid-island rivals 4-2 last night in Game 3 of the first round playoff series. Billy Walters found the back of the net twice, while Cam Nickerson and Dylan Hartl each added a goal. Andre Sutter and Brodie Smith answered for the Generals late in the 3rd period. Game 4 is Monday night in Parksville at Oceanside Place at 7:00 PM.

In the BCIHL, the VIU Men’s Hockey team needed overtime to seal a 6-5 win over Trinity Western University last night. Garrett Dunlop scored the game winner for the Mariners less than a minute into extra time.

At the PACWEST Championships in Abbotsford both the men’s and women’s VIU volleyball teams lost in the gold medal game. The men lost to Camosun in four sets 22-25, 24-26, 25-22, 14-25. Meanwhile the women lost in straight sets to Douglas College 19-25, 12-25, 20-25.
