Canada beats Brazil 45-5 for first win at Americas Rugby Championship

LANGFORD, B.C. — Luke Campbell set the tone early with a his first-ever try three minutes in as Canada’s men’s rugby team defeated Brazil 45-5 on Saturday in the third round of the Americas Rugby Championship.

A few minutes later, Cole Davis also went over for his first try in international rugby for Canada and Shane O’Leary added the extras for a 14-0 lead within 10 minutes.

Djustice Sears-Duru, DTH van der Merwe, Ray Barkwill, Doug Fraser and Guiseppe du Toit added a try each as the 21st-ranked Canadians went up 45-0 before Brazil added consolation points late in the match.

O’Leary finished with five conversions.
