Nanaimo RCMP searching for same suspect after Tim Hortons and Scotiabank robberies

Nov 29, 2017 | 4:24 PM

NANAIMO — After reviewing the evidence, Nanaimo RCMP say they believe the same man was behind two robberies in the same day.

Cst. Gary O’Brien said the first was a “terrifying” attempted robbery where a man reached through a north end Tim Hortons drive-thru window just after midnight on Wednesday with a knife and demanded cash. The suspect didn’t make off with any money until allegedly walking into the Island Highway Scotiabank near Costco at 3:30 p.m. the same day, giving the teller a note demanding cash and running away with an undisclosed amount of money.

O’Brien said police were on scene at the bank within minutes, accounting for the numerous reports of several unmarked police cars speeding up the highway.

Given the intense security at the Scotiabank, O’Brien said police have good images of the suspect and there have been numerous possible sightings.
