Raiders string of playoff road wins ends in Saskatoon

Oct 30, 2017 | 11:28 AM

SASKATOON — The VI Raiders winning run through the playoffs came to a halt on Sunday against the Saskatoon Hilltops.

After beating Okanagan and Westshore on the road to capture the 2017 Cullen, the Raiders were stymied by the 2016 Canadian Bowl champs 48-0.

The damage was done in the first half.

Saskatoon led 16-0 after one quarter and 37-0 at half time.

The Raiders gave up 11 second points but their offense couldn’t find the mark in the national semifinal.

On offense the Raiders key weapon Brycen Mayoh was held largely in check.

He had 6 catches for 46 yards and was held to short gains on a couple of punt returns.

Meanwhile quarterback Jake Laberge was 14 of 25 for 125 yards and one interception.

Defensively Shawn Arabsky led the way with eight solo tackles and Josh Paisley had one interception for VI.

While the Raiders head to the offseason, the Hilltops move on to the Canadian Bowl to face the Windsor AKO Fratmen on November 11 in Ontario.

This is the seventh time in eight years that the Hilltops will be in the national championship game.

The other six times they went on to win the Canadian Bowl.
