UPDATE: Both NB lanes on Hwy 19 open after tree falls on hydro lines

PARKSVILLE — DriveBC’s website is no longer showing an incident and it appears both lanes are now open.

EARLIER:

Northbound traffic on the Inland Island Highway (Hwy. 19) through Parksville is closed due to a downed tree and power lines.

Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman told NanaimoNewsNOW a tree draped over power lines and is blocking both northbound lanes just north of the junction where Highways 19 and 19A meet.

“Traffic is really bottled up and backed up in Parksville right now,” Foreman said, who described traffic heading north through Parksville as “chaotic.”

Foreman predicted the closure would be in place for a minimum of one hour as of 9:20 a.m.

He said BC Hydro crews have been alerted.
