Toronto Wolfpack halfback Ryan Brierley has had to withdraw from Scotland’s team for the Rugby League World Cup due to a lingering injury.

“Absolutely devastated to have to drop out of the Scotland squad, was my dream to play in a World Cup, especially in Australia but I will be supporting the boys from back home,” Brierley said via social media. “Good luck brothers @scotlandrugbyleague.”

The 25-year-old Brierley, an elusive runner, missed time at the end of the Wolfpack season with a hand injury. He is being replaced in the Scottish squad by Will Oakes of Hull Kingston Rovers.

Wolfpack players headed to the World Cup include Liam Kay (Ireland), Ryan Burroughs and Joe Eichner (U.S.) and Ashton Sims (Fiji).
