Spellbinding circus double-bill blends theatre, dance, high-risk acrobatics

Oct 3, 2017 | 12:48 PM

Nanaimo, BC – September 29, 2017: Back by popular demand: A spectacular contemporary circus double-bill. Following rave reviews from last Season’s circus performance we had to bring back more this Fall!

Join us for a jaw-dropping double-bill: Circus Squared: An Evening of West Coast Contemporary Circus on Sunday, October 15 at 7:30pm at The Port Theatre.

The evening begins with three of the West Coast’s favourite jugglers in Cause & Effect Circus’ award-winning The New Conformity. This remarkable “…clever and compelling” (Times Colonist) performance examines the universal struggle of the modern age: the comfort of conformity versus the freedom of individuality all told through tightly choreographed piece blending prop manipulation, martial arts and physical theatre.

A Fringe award-winner, this mesmerizing show not only features high-level circus skills but “…transcends circus performance,” (The Marble Theatre Reviews) by blending in theatrical social commentary. Watch as three co-workers struggle throughout the day over disagreements that spiral into chaos.

Next, The Underground Circus, who have been wowing BC audiences for years, present Equilibrium Fugue. Featuring a massive movable half-moon-shaped contraption, performers explore complex themes of equilibrium in movement and stillness through dance, theatre, high risk and artistic acrobatics.

A West Coast leader in contemporary circus arts, The Underground Circus is known for their spellbinding, technical skill and meticulous artistic production.

Stay for the Post-Show Chat in the Theatre to get a sneak-peak behind-the-scenes.

The Port Theatre would like to thank performance sponsor Church Pickard Chartered Professional Accountants for investing in the Arts.
