Ultra Garbatron? Shortlisted names in the bag for Nanaimo’s automated garbage trucks

Sep 25, 2017 | 2:27 PM

NANAIMO — What sounds catchier: arm-a-gettin’ or harbour city crusher?

They’re both possible names for Nanaimo’s two new automated garbage trucks, on a shortlist of names built by the community.

There’s 10 names people can vote on from Monday, Sept. 25 to Oct. 2.

The potential names are:

Truck 1 – Arm-a-gettin’, Ultra Garbatron, Trash-O-Saurus Rex, Nom Nom and Waste Warrior

Truck 2 – Harbour City Crusher, Mommy, Sanitary Claws, Professor Trashy and Crushasaurus Rex

People can vote online for their favourites for each truck.

The trucks are expected to hit the road at the end of October as part of the Sort, Toss, Roll initiative by the City of Nanaimo. New garbage calenders were handed out Sept. 20.

The roughly $800,000 trucks are expected to save sanitation workers from repetitive strain injuries.
