Nanaimo woman wins $500K on lotto ticket

NANAIMO — A trip to the store for ice cream turned into a life changing experience for a Nanaimo woman who is half-a-million dollars richer.
The BC Lottery Corporation said Elaine Rogers won the $500,000 on the Extra on the Aug. 24 Daily Grand draw. She bought the ticket at the lotto booth in Country Club Centre.
“I just couldn’t believe it,” Rogers said. “I stood there in shock as my ice cream melted down my hands. It took two clerks to convince me I had won.”
A BCLC release said Rogers plans to celebrate with a shopping trip and dinner with family.
