Human caused fires way down: Coastal Fire Centre
NANAIMO — Coastal Fire Centre is reporting a big drop in the number of human-caused wildfires this year.
The Coastal Fire Centre’s Jeanne Larsen reports there have been 77 person caused fires on the South Coast since April 1, scorching nearly 7,000 hectares of land.
She said the ten year average of person caused fires for this time of year is 121.
“With the weather trends that we’ve had since the spring people are a lot more aware of the fire danger that’s out there and they are being more cautious.”
