RDN urges residents to cut back on water use as outright ban looms

Aug 4, 2017 | 4:37 PM

NANAIMO — The Regional District of Nanaimo is asking residents in its water service areas to step up conservation efforts.

As of Aug. 5, the nine water service areas will increase to stage three restrictions. The same limitations as stage two remain in effect, however residents are encouraged to take voluntary steps to lower consumption.

An RDN news release said demand has been higher than average for this time of year, leading to low reservoir levels and strained wells. If the usage trend continues a move to a complete outdoor watering ban will be necessary, the release said.

While further cut backs on water usage are voluntary and people can choose how to achieve them, the reduction in demand is critical.
