Jul 26, 2017 | 2:40 PM

NANAIMO — Police say they’ve captured and arrested Lance Ian Point, who was wanted for several offenses, including assault with a weapon.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said Point was found on Shoreline Dr. thanks to a tip from the community.

Point allegedly ran and was captured at roughly 5:45 p.m.

EARLIER: Police are turning to the public for help finding a violent offender.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said longtime Nanaimo resident Lance Ian Point, 34, is wanted for several offences, including assault with a weapon.

Point is First Nations, 5’7″, 130 lbs. with short brown hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo with the name JENNY on his left forearm.

O’Brien said the assault with a weapon charge was laid after an alleged altercation with an off-duty police officer who tried to arrest Point in May.

“He attempted to take him into custody, at which time Point allegedly told him he would stab him with a knife he had. Several bystanders got involved and they restrained him until other officers came.”

Point was charged and released but failed to show up for a court date, O’Brien said.

He said there’s always concern when someone with a “propensity for violence” is on the streets.

If anyone sees Point, he should be considered violent and not approached. Instead, call 911 or Crime Stoppers. “He knows if he’s getting arrested he’s going back to jail for a considerable amount of time,” O’Brien said.

Editor’s Note: This story was updated after RCMP announced they had arrested Lance Ian Point.
