Fire causes extensive damage to north Nanaimo home

NANAIMO — Four people are homeless after a fire caused extensive damage to a home in Nanaimo’s north end.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief Brad Wood told NanaimoNewsNOW crews arrived to find a home on Rovere Pl., near Rutherford Elementary, fully engulfed in flames just after 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

Wood said the four people in the home were able to make it out safely and no one was injured. He described the damage to the home as “extensive” and said it would be up to an insurance company to decide if the house was beyond repair.

A second home was slightly damaged by the intense flames, Wood said.
