UPDATE: RCMP say no foul play suspected in Coombs death

Jun 27, 2017 | 2:07 PM

NANAIMO — After several days of investigation, the RCMP says they don’t suspect foul play was involved in the death of the 55-year-old woman found dead near the Alberni Highway.

The BC Coroner’s Service is now investigating.

EARLIER:

RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit is combing an area of the Alberni Highway after finding the body of a 55-year-old woman.

RCMP said emergency responders found the woman near the 2400 block of the highway around 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 25. They were responding to a report of a “man down.”

While Mounties won’t say exactly where the woman’s body was found, comments online indicated a heavy police presence outside the vacant Frontiersman Bar and Grill.

At the moment, the Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident and who next of kin are.

Police said there’s no reason for the public to be worried about their own safety.
