Man flown to hospital after serious Lantzville crash

NANAIMO — A man had to be flown to hospital following a serious two-car crash north of Nanaimo, according to the Lantzville Volunteer Fire Department.

Acting chief John Marment told NanaimoNewsNOW a car backing out of a Lantzville Rd. driveway near Superior Rd. was t-boned on Tuesday night.

He said the driver of the car that was hit had to be pried free with the jaws of life.

“In this particular case we were lucky, the impact almost pushed the doors in which exposed the hinges,” Marment said. “It was just a matter of using our spreader to peel the door off.”

Marment said the man’s leg was stuck in the car and it appeared he had a broken pelvis.

An air ambulance was called in and the man was flown to Victoria hospital for treatment.

Marment noted the other driver had minor injuries.

Nanaimo RCMP report alcohol has been ruled out but speed may have been a factor.
