Classic car buffs to descend on Qualicum Beach for Father’s Day

Jun 17, 2017 | 11:21 PM

QUALICUM BEACH — The place to be for car enthusiasts on Sunday is undoubtedly Qualicum Beach.

The 24th annual Seaside Cruizers Father’s Day Show n’ Shine takes over downtown Qualicum Beach as 600 classic cars from the early 1900’s to today are featured on display.

Spokesman Dave Field said huge crowds will be on hand.

“We close off the main downtown core of Qualicum Beach, we park the cars right on the street,” Field told NanaimoNewsNOW. “We get about 15,000 to 20,000 people on the streets walking around to look at all of the cars on display.”

He said the cars will be set up for viewing between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Awards will be handed out at 2:30, according to Field.

Field said a bulk of the vehicles are from Vancouver Island and elsewhere in British Columbia, but noted it’s anticipated classic cars from as far away as Montana and Arizona will be on hand.

Field said last year’s event generated a record $30,000 in donations to support 19 Oceanside region charities.

He noted several food trucks will also be on hand for the family event.
