Nanaimo Golf Club hosts Women’s Mid-Island Amateur this weekend

Jun 2, 2017 | 12:06 PM

NANAIMO — After a one year absence the Women’s Mid-Island Amateur golf tournament is back.

The event has been around since the late 1940’s and is the longest standing tournament at the Nanaimo Golf Club.

Head Pro Kerry Davison says the competitors for the two day event will have two playing options for 2017.

“We’ve got over 70 players coming,” said Davison. “It’s a two day event and there are two components to it this year. One is the 36 hole individual stroke play from one set of tees, the other part of it is a two day team event. You can opt into one or the other.”

Saturday June 3 is a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start and Sunday June 4 is an 8:30 a.m. start, with a practice round scheduled on June 2.

Davison expects very good conditions for the golfers who will be aged 16 and over.

“The course is playing very well. Over the last two or three weeks our grounds crew has worked tirelessly to get the golf course into good shape and it’s coming along very nicely,” said Davison.

Tournament information, including this weekend’s draw is available at nanaimogolfclub.ca.
