Garbage truck flips on McGirr Rd.

NANAIMO — Parents picking up their children from Dover Bay Secondary School had to turn back around due to a flipped garbage truck in the middle of the road and the awful smell coming from it. 

The City of Nanaimo garbage truck overturned before 2:30 p.m., closing the street. 

Captain Ron Daley with Nanaimo Fire Rescue said the driver was up and walking before going to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

He couldn’t say how the truck ended up on its side.

The road was closed as crews cleaned spilled fluids and prepared for the truck to be hauled away.
