Nanaimo firefighters grapple with two simultaneous fires

May 6, 2017 | 11:35 AM

NANAIMO — A massive plume of black smoke this morning caught many people’s attention and caused significant traffic delays at the Uplands Dr. and Turner Rd. intersection.

Nanaimo fire crews responded to what they called a “secluded garage” which was on fire just past Longwood Station on Uplands. They said no one was injured in the blaze but it did cause a commotion and hampered traffic.

Uplands Dr. was blocked for crews and fire hoses at Longwood Station and Turner Rd.

That was the second blaze dealt with. Fire crews said they also responded to a house fire on Winchelsea Pl. off Fillinger Cres. Thankfully no one was home at the time. Investigators are there and will then investigate the site on Uplands Dr.
