Nanaimo student arrested after threat towards school

NANAIMO — An 18-year-old Nanaimo high school student is in custody after allegedly making threats directed at a school.

The student was arrested Tuesday night, according to Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien. He would not give details of the threats.

“They’re enough for our police officers to attend to his home, arrest him without incident and he’s currently in custody.”

O’Brien would not say which school was involved or how the threats were made. “The individual did not specify any students or staff.”

A trusted source told NanaimoNewsNOW the threat was directed at Dover Bay Secondary School.

O’Brien said the school was advised and officers are there Wednesday working with staff, students and parents. He said RCMP are now working to determine the exact nature of the threats.
