Little Qualicum River Regional Park expands

Mar 15, 2017 | 2:58 PM

NANAIMO — A popular Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) park near Qualicum Beach is being nearly tripled in size thanks to a donation from a property management company.

The RDN has announced Little Qualicum River Regional Park will be increased from 109 to 277 acres, following a gift from Wicklow West Holdings.

“It would improve access, it just makes it a hugely better park and it’s already one of the best parks in the RDN,” an excited RDN board chair Bill Veenhof said.

Most of the donated land is on the south side of Little Qualicum River.

The park, between Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park and Meadowood Community Park, runs along both sides of Little Qualicum River and includes rough trails leading to the stream.

“There will be an expansion to the trail network, there’s a trail that connects through Corcan Rd. in behind the Qualicum Beach area.”

Veenhof noted that additional signage will be installed and a bridge repaired later this year.
