VICTORIA — The Vancouver Island University women's volleyball team had hopes of a National Championship this weekend in Victoria at Camosun College.
However, a straight set loss to Lakeland on Friday night forced VIU to battle for bronze. The Mariners took on the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves on Saturday afternoon. VIU dropped the first set 22-25,
but battled back to win the next three sets 25-18, 25-20, 25-11 to capture the bronze medal. For VIU it marks the 17th National medal in school history.
Lakeland defeated the host Camosun College for the gold.
Meanwhile the VIU men's volleyball team failed to medal after losing to Medicine Hat in a bronze medal semi-final match Saturday afternoon at the CCAA Nationals in London, Ontario.
At the BC boys high school basketball provincials NDSS beat Wellington 85-49 for 9th place.
