UPDATE: Fire closes Nanaimo gym, not considered suspicious

NANAIMO — Nanaimo Fire Rescue says the incident which closed the Nanaimo Athletic Club isn’t suspicious.

Assistant Chief Greg Norman said the fire appears to be electrical.

“Structurally it was not serious…but there is a bit of damaged cause by fire, smoke (and) water and damage to plumbing.”

The case has been handed off to the insurance company.

EARLIER: If you use the Nanaimo Athletic Club, your work outs are on hold.

According to their Facebook page, a fire has closed the gym indefinitely.

There’s no word yet on what caused the fire.

The investigation is ongoing.
