Mounties release sketch of suspects in home invasion involving guns in Nanaimo

Mar 2, 2017 | 9:54 AM

NANAIMO — Mounties hope the public can help identify two men accused of wielding hand guns in a home invasion in central Nanaimo.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said three men went into an apartment building on Feb. 16 and used hand guns to threaten and assault three men inside.

“They tied up the residents inside, they stole an amount of cash, cell phones and some other property,” O’Brien said. “They (the residents) were left traumatized by the ordeal but they didn’t require any hospitalization.”

O’Brien said investigators got a good description of two of the suspects and have been able to put together a sketch. The suspects are also associated with a blue 2007 Chevy Silverado.

While RCMP don’t know why this happened, there’s always a concern when people are running around with hand guns, O’Brien said. “For some reason these individuals were targeted, we don’t know if there’s any connection at all at this point.”

O’Brien said police are reaching out to the public now, two weeks after the attack, because it took time to get the sketches together and investigators are at the point where they feel they need help from the public.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
