VIU’s Brouwer and Kobayashi win PACWEST Player of the Week awards

NANAIMO — Two VIU Mariners have won PACWEST Player of the Week Awards.
 
Braydon Brouwer had the nod in Men’s Volleyball and Kaz Kobayashi picked up the honour in Men’s Basketball.
 
Brouwer and the volleyball team had to play three matches in three days last week and won two of them.
 
They beat Capilano 3-1 on Thursday, then took out Douglas College 3-1 on Friday, before losing 3-2 to Douglas on Saturday.
 
In that three day span Brouwer recorded 51 total offensive points with 42 kills, seven blocks, two service aces, and 31 digs.  
 
He’s ranked first in the league with 253 kills and eighth digs.
 
The Mariners basketball team beat Capilano 93-73 last Friday and then whipped Douglas College 75-59 on Saturday.
 
Kobayashi contributed 22 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in the two victories and was a stalwart defensively.
 
The fifth year guard is ranked 8th in assists in the PACWEST with an average of 2.69 per game.
 
VIU hosts Camosun Thursday night at 8 p.m.
