The best in Qualicum Beach to be recognized in February

QUALICUM BEACH – It’s award season, not only for Hollywood, but for Qualicum Beach.

The Chamber of Commerce is now taking nominations for their 2016 Community Awards, to be handed out Feb. 15 at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.

Chamber chief executive officer Evelyn Clark says the awards honour excellence in business and community service.

“The awards are actually a confirmation of all of the great people and organizations in town that make Qualicum Beach a great place to live and work,” said Clark. “We think that these nominees are appreciated because they’ve gone above and beyond what’s required to make their business or their personal life work very well.”

Clark says it makes for a special celebration, noting you don’t have be a Chamber member to be nominated.

“It’s always really nice once a year to acknowledge that in a small town and in a rural region there are people who just give things away in order to make it better and that’s what we do with the Qualicum Beach Community Awards.”

The nomination deadline is noon on Jan. 27 and Clark says they have seven categories.

“One of them is Lifetime Achievement. That is decided by the former chairs of the Chamber of Commerce. That’s a major one and that’s the one that celebrates a citizen who has been exemplary for years and years.”

The other categories are Citizen of the Year, Outstanding Customer Service, Business of the Year, New Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Newsmaker of the Year.
