NANAIMO — Nearly 40 charges have been laid against two people Nanaimo RCMP say are responsible for robbing at least 20 local businesses.

Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong says the RCMP’s Street Crimes Unit took over the investigation after more than 20 Nanaimo businesses were victimized by smash-and-grab style robberies between Nov. 20 and Dec. 13.

Armstrong says on Dec. 23 a man and woman were arrested in connection with over 20 of the break-ins that police are aware of right now.

Campbell River’s Dawn Harry, 36, has been charged with over 20 counts related to property offences, while David Lawson, 38, of Nanaimo, is charged with 16 property offences.
