Dec 23, 2016 | 2:00 PM

NANAIMO — Police are hoping for tips after a young woman reports a man tried to grab her and pull her into a vehicle, not far from Vancouver Island University.

The woman, 21, was walking and had just turned on to Lambert Avenue from 5th Street when a car pulled up around 2:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, according to RCMP Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong.

“The male driver asked her for directions and as she gave him the directions and went to walk away, the passenger rear door opened and another male grabbed her arm and tried to get her into the vehicle,” said Armstrong.

Armstrong says the girl was able to get away by kicking the man. She says the girl reports she saw the car turning back onto 5th Street as she was running away.

“She was not injured, however she was quite shaken,” said Armstrong, who didn’t have an update on the condition of the girl.

The driver is described as Middle Eastern and in his late 20’s. The passenger that grabbed the girl is possibly Middle Eastern, with dark facial hair and a tattoo on his forearm.

Armstrong says the girl described the car as a new, silver, shiny four door car, with a long front and shiny, new rims.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
