Slim chance of a white Christmas in Nanaimo

Dec 23, 2016 | 11:16 AM

NANAIMO — A white Christmas is a rare sight on the west coast and it looks like this year won’t be any different.

Environment Canada pegs the likelihood of snow flying on Christmas in Nanaimo at 9.6 per cent. The last white Christmas in the harbour city was back in 2012.

There was six centimetres that day and Environment Canada Meteoroligist Armel Castellan says the heaviest Christmas snowfall was nearly 80 years ago.

“You did see in 1937, 38.1 centimetres fall which is absolutely the top record. It’s pretty astounding,” said Castellan.
