Two men in custody after armed robbery at Nanaimo business

Dec 21, 2016 | 4:25 PM

NANAIMO — Very few details from Nanaimo RCMP about an armed robbery investigation that has two people in custody.

Mounties say a man, 31, went into a central Nanaimo business just before 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, pulled out a knife and demanded cash and merchandise. The clerk followed orders and the man got into a waiting vehicle and took off, according to police.

Around 7 p.m. Tuesday, police say they caught up with the suspect and arrested him. During the course of the investigation, police say they arrested another man, 39, and both men are being held in custody.

Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong says because the investigation is still active and part of something bigger, she can’t release any more information, including the name of the business that was robbed or how the other man is involved.
