Mounties say vehicle stolen, then torched in north Nanaimo
NANAIMO — Police are investigating after they say a car was stolen and then torched in a north-end neighbourhood.
Nanaimo Mounties say they were called by Fire Rescue around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday to Pleasant Ridge Place, in the Pleasant Valley area near Superstore. A Ford Escape had been lit on fire and was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived, according to police.
It turns out the vehicle had been stolen on Monday from the nearby Best Western.
Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong says she doesn’t know if this case might be linked to another incident in July of this year, when four cars were set ablaze in the north-end.
