Icy roads catch many Nanaimo drivers off guard Monday

NANAIMO — Icy roads seemed to catch everyone in Nanaimo by surprise Monday morning.

There were a number of incidents during the morning commute and RCMP Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong says the conditions haven’t really improved.

“We’ve had numerous members attending to lots of vehicles that are going sideways on the highway, we’ve got a bus that’s gone sideways on one of the roads,” said Armstrong. “We’re reminding drivers to please slow down, the roads are extremely icy. I know the city has got the crews out, they’re doing as much as they can as fast as they can.”

Nanaimo’s Roads Manager David Myles confirms his crews are out salting the roads.
