Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards seeks nominations for outstanding contributions in 2016

Dec 9, 2016 | 1:17 PM

NANAIMO — The Sport Achievement Awards has recognized the accomplishments of local athletes since 2006.

A deadline is coming up on December 20th to nominate athletes, coaches, volunteers and administrators for their accomplishments in the community.

To make a nomination go to www.nanaimosportachievementawards.com and then fill out and fill out the online form.

Awards spokesperson Marilyn Sullivan says they have a list of 22 categories, and one area they could use some more submissions is for officials.

“There is not one sport that can be played without officials. We have two categories for coaches, we have junior athletes, we have masters, we have awards for high school athetes, university athletes – we’ve tried to cover everything,” said Sullivan.

Long Distance runner Erin Burrett says she is proud to have been an award winner in the past.

“As an athlete you spend a lot of time not only training but a lot goes into it with recovery and nutrition and everything. When you put all that effort in and you get nominated by the Nanaimo Sport Awards it truly is an honour to see all your hard work recognized,” said Burrett.

All of the categories will be narrowed down to three finalists who will be invited to a special ceremony next year.

The Nanaimo Sport Achievement Awards night is on Friday February 17th at the Coast Bastion Inn.
