NDSS upsets Barsby to win BC football championship

VANCOUVER — The NDSS Islanders are BC High School Football champions thanks to an upset win over their crosstown rivals.

The Islanders beat John Barsby 23-0 this afternoon in the Junior Varsity Double A Subway Bowl at BC Place.

The win marks the first high school football title for NDSS since their varsity team won a Tier 2 championship in 2011.

They came into the game as underdogs against the Bulldogs, having finished the season at 4-2, second place behind the 6-0 ‘Dogs. Barsby also beat NDSS in both regular season meetings this season.

Family bragging rights were also on the line today between the two head coaches. NDSS’ Nate Stevenson will have an extra piece of hardware to bring to the next family dinner to show his brother Rob.
