Clippers can’t solve Chiefs in 6-1 loss

Nov 5, 2016 | 1:17 AM

NANAIMO – For the second straight game the Clippers gave up six goals at home as they lost 6-1 to the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday.

In the first period there were very few chances, but the Chiefs made it 1-0 on the power play when Aaron O’Neill put a rebound behind Evan DeBrouwer.

The only goal in the second was a transition rush converted by Cole Poliziani.

Nanaimo had a huge five on three penalty kill of 50 seconds in the second period as well.

In the third period the Chiefs built up a 5-0 lead on three goals in just under three minutes by Derek Osik, Jake Smith on the power play, and Linden Hora.

After the Smith goal coach Mike Vandekamp pulled DeBrouwer and Austin Roden played the rest of the period.

Ben Solin scored Nanaimo’s only goal on a third period man advantage when his pass banked off a Chiefs defender and in behind goalie Mark Sinclair.

O’Neill got his second goal of the game with three minutes left to round out the scoring.

The highlight of the night for the Clippers may have been 5’9 Adam Pilotte fighting 6’7 Connor McCarthy.

Pilotte stood tall in a scrap against the massive Chiefs defenseman.

Chilliwack outshot Nanaimo 28-27 and on special teams the Clippers went 1/3 on the power play 4/6 killing penalties.

At the 20 game mark the Clippers are 10-8-0-2.

They’ll look to build on that record as they start the second third of the season at home Sunday against the Merritt Centennials.
