B.C. unemployment rate jumps substantially
OTTAWA — Aside from Atlantic Canada, B.C. had the biggest jump in its unemployment rate last month.
The B.C. rate jumped five-tenths of a point to sit at 6.2 per cent, up from 5.7 per cent last month.
Most other provinces in the west stayed virtually unchanged in the past month. The rate in Manitoba and Alberta was unchanged, while the rate in Saskatchewan jumped by a tenth of a point, and Ontario’s rate dropped two-tenths of a point.
Among B.C. cities of note, Kelowna’s rate jumped to 8.0 per cent from 7.3, Victoria’s was up three-tenths of a point, Abbotsford’s rate jumped to 6.4 per cent from 6.0, while Vancouver’s rate was unchanged at 4.9 per cent.
